Blamphin Access Ramp

Blamphin access ramp

Ms. Blamphin called us needing an access ramp built for her mother of whom was being released from the hospital with a broken hip a week sooner than they expected, like tomorrow. We were more than happy to oblige.

Her mother was elderly in age and in a wheelchair, so they requested that it be an 'assisted access' ramp. This meant that the grade of the ramp could be a maximum of 2"/12" instead of the maximum standard code of 1"/12".

This was to be a temporary built ramp, so it wasn't hard fastened to the pavement or stairs. They wanted something that was weather durable and that it also had to look nice.

We used 5/4"X6" boards with 3/16" spacing for the top decking material over 3-2"x6" stringers, blocked and braced.  This allowed for greater traction and better water dispersal over using treated plywood, of which they didn't want.

To keep the wheel chair centered on the top of the ramp, we added side wheel rails and a galvanized floor pan to allow the wheels to roll onto the ramp smoothly.

We also built a simple indoor ramp, too.

Were grateful to know that Ms. Blamphin is satisfied to it's design, looks and functionality.
