Green Skylight Repair

skylight

Ms. Green had a skylight that was leaking and she needed it repaired. She said that she didn't care as to what was done to fix it, so our options were:
  1. Sealing it off, which required roof and interior work such as framing in the hole and doing ceiling drywall work.
  2. Replacing the skylight with a new, better made skylight.
  3. Rebuilding that which is already there.

She then said that she wanted to go the least costly method possible which only left method number 3. The new modern skylights cost at least $375.00 a piece and she had two that needed to be repaired.

The skylight was nailed flat to the roof and sealed to the underlayment with roofing cement that was showing some cracking. So any attempt to seal it has been and would be useless. We carefully extracted the skylight from the roof and used 2"x4" 's to build a curb underneath it to deflect any water around it.

Skylight After

We replaced all the shingles around the skylight and used step flashing up the rake on the sides of it. We wrapped the sides with metal and sealed the lip to the skylight. Since this was an ongoing issue with Ms. Green, we put a water deflector across the top to help divert water around the unit.

Two skylights on her roof were fixed this way.

In addition, we also repaired a couple small 2" holes that was left from a tree branch falling on the roof after an ice storm happened.
