While I was living in Eureka Springs, AR, I was supervisor and lead carpenter for Strough Construction. We built this 16'x20', two bedroom one bath custom addition onto a log cabin that was built in the 1860's.
Underneath all that cedar shake siding are the actual logs that make up this historic house, so adding a conventional framed building to it was an exciting challenge, to say the least. My goal was to try to make it not look like an addition by lining up the old and new walls with each other and by blending the same exterior look from the old building onto the new addition.
All the trim work on the windows and corners were done with 2"x6" cedar and then covered with recycled and fresh cedar shake. We feel that it came out well.
