Speaker Soffit Build

On another project, the Speakers had a heating and air man come in and install an air duct pipe in one of their rental units that ran across the kitchen and into the living room.

They wanted it covered up and out of site.

I framed a box around the duct work and used 3-1/2" deck screws to hold it in place.

The wood in these old houses (80 yr.) are dry and they don't take nails very well. Either the wood will splinter or shatter, or not 'grab' the nail, so I like to screw (heavy) objects into place.

I reused the crown moulding for it was hard to find, and also a little lighter on the wallet.

The drywall was a smooth no textured finish. Smooth walls, of course, take longer to do than textured walls; but if done right, it can look seamless.

I repainted the three walls so as to not have the soffit look like an after thought add-on.

I also pulled two window a/c units and rebuilt two wooden window sills.
